Workplace Communication · Lesson 7

Your Workplace Communication Plan

Build a repeatable system that makes communication clearer before pressure rises.

A personal plan reduces the need to invent language during a stressful meeting, confusing assignment, or conflict. It combines your preferred communication methods, early overload signs, clarification habits, boundary scripts, and support network.

Use systems for recurring demands

Input

How you receive instructions and capture decisions.

Priorities

How you confirm order, deadlines, and tradeoffs.

Updates

Who needs progress information and when.

Recovery

How you protect focus, sensory capacity, and decompression.

Keep three core scripts ready

  • Clarify: “My understanding is ___. Could you confirm ___?”
  • Capacity: “I can complete ___ or ___. Which is the priority?”
  • Repair: “I think we understood ___ differently. Can we confirm the expectation for next time?”

Review after patterns—not just crises

Once a month, note which situations created confusion or overload and which strategies worked. Adjust one part of the system at a time. The goal is reliable communication, not flawless social performance.

Your plan should fit the actual job. Keep what improves outcomes and revise what creates extra work without benefit.
